Contemporary South African Landscape Artist

Hello. My name is Tracy Algar. I am a landscape painter, living and working in Adendorp, near Graaff-Reinet, in the Karoo. I create oil paintings of my local environment, Adendorp, Graaff-Reinet, Spandau Kop, Camdeboo and the Valley of Desolation. 

My interests are colour and feeling of place that the light creates. For the past year, almost all of my paintings are of locations within 10kms of my new Karoo home.

My paintings are my attempt to convey the feeling, atmosphere and memory of a specific moment at a specific place, using colour to translate the scene.

I work both en plein air and in the studio. Studio work is informed by reference photographs, my memories, value sketches and colour studies made at the location.
