Commissions

Commissioning a painting is a wonderful way to bring a personal connection into a landscape. I work with collectors to create pieces that reflect the light, atmosphere, and sense of place that matter most to them — whether it’s a view from the Karoo, a meaningful location, or a landscape that evokes a particular feeling or memory.

If you’re drawn to my work and would like something created especially for you, I’m delighted to discuss a commission.

How the Process Works

1. Initial Conversation

We begin with a short email or phone call to explore your idea. You don’t need to have it all worked out. We'll discuss:

• your preferred size
• reference photos or a location that is meaningful
• important memories or feelings about the location
  

This helps me understand the direction you have in mind.

2. Proposal & Quote

Based on our conversation, I’ll send you:

• size options and pricing
• timeline and expected completion date

There’s no obligation to proceed until you’re ready.

3. Deposit

A 50% deposit confirms the commission and secures your place in my schedule. The remaining balance is due on completion.

4. Creation

Depending on the piece, I may work:

• in the studio, from your reference photographs and my sketches
• en plein air (on location) to capture the light and atmosphere
• in the studio, using a combination of sketches, plein air studies, and reference photographs

I’ll share progress updates if you enjoy seeing the process, but only as much as feels comfortable for you.

5. Completion & Delivery

When the painting is complete, I’ll send final photos for approval.
Delivery or shipping can be arranged locally, nationally, or internationally.

Timeline

Most commissions take 4–8 weeks, depending on size and my current schedule. If you have a specific deadline in mind, please let me know.

Pricing

Pricing is based on size, and whether the piece requires travel for plein air work. I’ll provide a clear, upfront quote so you know exactly what to expect.

• a story or memory connected to the landscape
• trust in my style and approach

My goal is always to create a piece that feels true to my work, and is deeply personal to you.
